CPY2DSKT: selective copy to diskette

Description

Copy utility for use with 8" diskette drives. Totals the number of blocks in the selected files, then tells how many diskettes will be required. Copied files do not span volumes as with Wang's BACKUP utility.

User Instructions

Makes it easy to move files onto a diskette without files spanning diskettes. It computes the total block count of the selected files, then compares this to the capacity of the diskette drive to determine how many diskettes will be needed.

Programmer Instructions

Attempts to fit files onto 8" diskettes. File space usage is summed in the order the files are entered; does not fit files onto the diskette with the best possible use of space.

All screens are GETPARMs, so CPY2DSKT can be run under complete program control.

INPUT       Press (RETURN) to continue or PF(16) to exit.
            (This screen may be repeated as many times as
            necessary to select input files.)

  FILE      (blank)     The input file to be analyzed.  Leave
  LIBRARY   (blank)     the file name blank to select all
  VOLUME    (blank)     files in a library.  Leave file and
                        library name blank to end input.

OPTIONS     Press PF(01) to return to INPUT screen or PF(14)
            for explanation of the options available for the
            NEW#NAME field.

  DEVICE    (first)     The device number of the diskette
                        drive.  Defaults to the first
                        diskette drive on the system.

  FUNCTION  INITIALIZE  Set to REFORMAT to erase prior
                        information on the destination
                        diskette without lengthy formatting.

  NEW#NAME  (blank)     The new name of the destination
                        diskette.  Options: a single name
                        used by all diskettes; a name using
                        an increment number; an entirely new
                        name for each diskette.

  FILECLAS  (blank)     The file protection class of the
                        resulting files.

Example of use

Unlike the Wang BACKUP utility, produces diskettes with all files complete and intact. Naturally, large files may not fit onto a single diskette and would be passed up by CPY2DSKT.

Comments

Could be much more powerful if it recognized 5-1/4" diskettes.
